NIE Vigo

Vigo · Redondela · Cangas · O Porriño — NIE, TIE and padrón

NIE Vigo: the paperwork of a new life on the ría

Permit applications go in at Rúa Teófilo Llorente, Vigo's Oficina de Extranjería, while the number itself, the green certificate and the TIE are handled by the Policía Nacional, booked by cita previa for the province of Pontevedra. We find the route that fits your passport, fill in the forms with you and track down an appointment.

fourteen guides on three rafts

Find your raft, then follow its rope down

This site is drawn from the bateas, the mussel rafts moored in rows on the Ría de Vigo, because Spanish paperwork hangs the same way: each procedure is a raft, and the papers it needs hang from it like ropes into the water.

Vigo at dusk on a late-September evening, seen from high above the city centre: the long quay of the Guixar container terminal curves along the inner Ría de Vigo, lined with white gantry cranes and a container ship, yellow and orange harbour cranes rise in front of the rooftops of the centre, the wooded hill of A Guía crowned by a small tower stands on the left above a marina, and far beyond, between layers of blue-grey mountains, the cable-stayed Rande bridge spans the ría under a soft pink-tinged sky

Number, booking, Europeans

The NIE, the booking for the province, the fee, the green certificate and the cross-border NIE: the raft nearly everyone ties up to first.

  1. The NIE, on its own or inside a residence paperA foreigner’s reference number, given once by the Policía Nacional and kept for good. Whether yours comes alone on the EX-15 or inside a residence paper, and where the police of the province list it.
  2. Europeans who stay: the green certificateHolding an EU, EEA or Swiss passport and staying in Vigo past three months? Form EX-18, the proof that suits your situation, and the police units of the province that list it.
  3. Booking for the province of PontevedraOne booking system, organised by province: choosing Pontevedra, then the trámite, then reading which office the confirmation gives you, in Vigo or elsewhere.
  4. Paying the 790-012The State fee that comes with police procedures: producing the form online, ticking one box, paying it, and keeping the stamped copy.
  5. Portuguese neighbours and cross-border workMoving to Vigo, or working in Spain while home stays in Portugal? The first calls for the green certificate; the second, a non-resident NIE on form EX-15.

Cards, visas, relatives

Non-EU residents and their families: the TIE, Britons after Brexit, the EX-19, students and trips during a renewal.

  1. The TIE: prints first, card afterArrived on a long-stay visa, or granted a permit in Spain? Book the huellas, take form EX-17, keep the resguardo, then collect the card where you applied.
  2. UK passports in Vigo since BrexitResident before 2021? Your card is the Withdrawal Agreement TIE, and an old green certificate is worth exchanging. Arriving now? A visa comes first.
  3. Non-EU family of a European: the EX-19Your spouse, partner, parent or child is a European living in Vigo, and your own passport is not? Form EX-19, the proof of the link, and the Oficina de Extranjería on Rúa Teófilo Llorente, which lists the card.
  4. Coming to study in VigoWith a European passport, the green certificate; with any other, a student visa first and the TIE after. Second-year extensions, and which office lists what.
  5. Autorización de regreso: out and backA journey you cannot postpone while your card is out of date or missing: what the return authorisation covers, the papers, and where the police of the province list it.

Work, home, the city

A job at sea or ashore, buying a home, the addresses of extranjería and the padrón: the steps that make Vigo your address.

  1. A job in Vigo, at sea or ashoreA contract at the port, a shipyard, a factory or an office: the two numbers on every payslip, the NIE and your número de afiliación, and for non-EU workers the authorisation that must come first.
  2. Buying a home near the ríaA flat in Vigo, a house in Baiona or Cangas: each buyer’s NIE before the notary, the route for non-residents, and a poder notarial if you cannot be there.
  3. Teófilo Llorente and the police of the provinceExtranjería Vigo, address by address: what the Oficina de Extranjería on Rúa Teófilo Llorente decides, what the police units in Pontevedra, Tui, Marín, Vilagarcía and Salvaterra list, phones and hours.
  4. Empadroamento: the padrón at the Concello de VigoRegistering your address with the Concello: the Oficina de Estatística on Praza do Rei, walk-in tickets or a booking, the papers on the Concello’s list, online registration, and help for newcomers.

Everything here starts with one number

Vigo lives facing the Atlantic, around its port, its shipyards and factories, and the islands at the mouth of its ría. People arrive for work at sea or on a production line, to study, to join family, or simply for the green coast and the sea air.

Whatever brought you, Spanish paperwork starts with the NIE. In Vigo, knowing where each step happens is half the work: permits at one address, police procedures booked for the whole province. We map it out for your situation and walk you through the forms, the fee and the booking.

What the NIE opens for you

  • A contract with a shipyard, a cannery or a factory on the ría
  • Signing on a fishing or merchant vessel based in Vigo
  • A degree, an exchange or research at the Universidade de Vigo
  • Working in Spain while home stays in northern Portugal
  • A flat to rent in Bouzas, Teis or the Casco Vello
  • The escritura of a house in Baiona, Nigrán or Cangas
  • A spouse from outside the EU joining a European partner in Vigo
  • Swapping an old green certificate for the Agreement TIE
Rows of bateas, the floating wooden mussel rafts of the Ría de Vigo, seen from the hillside of Domaio on the Moaña shore: dozens of dark rafts loaded with gear lie in loose lines across the deep-blue water, a block of pale timber-lattice rafts floats in tight parallel rows in the foreground, a small marina juts out on the right, and across the ría the city of Vigo spreads along the shore around the green hill of A Guía beneath a ridge of mountains and a hazy sky, with the blue roofs of waterside sheds and dark eucalyptus at the bottom edge

From your first message to the appointment

How a request travels with us

  1. Step 1: Find your raft

Send a short note: your nationality, where around the ría you are settling, and what has a date attached, a contract, a deed, a course. We write back naming the procedure and the office that handle your case.

  2. Step 2: Hang the ropes

Together we complete the application form and the 790-012, list the evidence your situation calls for, and test each paper against that list well before the appointment.

  3. Step 3: Wait for the slot

We keep an eye on the cita previa screens for Pontevedra until a suitable slot appears, then read the confirmation with you: procedure, office, street, hour.

  4. Step 4: Bring it in

A last message before the appointment gives the address, the papers in the order they will be asked for, and the next step after it: the card, the padrón, Social Security or the notary.

Extranjería for Vigo

Extranjería Vigo: one street for permits, a province for papers

At Rúa Teófilo Llorente 4, bajo, 36202, the Oficina de Extranjería (902 022 222, weekdays 9:00–14:00) decides authorisations, the EU family card included. Numbers, green certificates and TIE cards are police procedures booked for the province: today policia.es lists the Brigada Provincial at C/ Joaquín Costa 17, Pontevedra (986 868 849), and units in Tui, Marín, Vilagarcía de Arousa and Salvaterra de Miño, but none in Vigo itself. Until early 2024 that list also carried the Comisaría de Vigo Traviesas, C/ Álvaro Cunqueiro 6, and the Universidade de Vigo’s arrival guide still names it. Book for the province: the cita previa confirmation names the office.

Empadronamiento in Vigo

The padrón is the Concello’s: its Oficina de Estatística, on the ground floor of the Casa do Concello, Praza do Rei 1, takes walk-ins on weekdays with a ticket until the numbers run out (tickets from 8:30, says its page; office hours 9:00–13:30), and optional bookings through 010 or its booking site; with an electronic signature, the Carpeta Cidadá takes it online. Foreigners register with a passport, a NIE document with photo, a residence card or a TIE. For free legal information on immigration, registered residents can book the municipal immigrant office on Martínez Garrido 21; for Spanish lessons, the Escola Oficial de Idiomas de Vigo and the Universidade’s Centro de Linguas.

Around the ría

From the Centro, the Casco Vello, Bouzas, Teis, Coia, Navia, Calvario and Lavadores to Redondela, Cangas, Moaña, Nigrán, Baiona, O Porriño and Mos: one province for police bookings, and each Concello with its own padrón.

Teófilo Llorente and the police of the province

Asked before you

Cita previa NIE Vigo: how is the appointment booked?

On the State’s cita previa service at sede.administracionespublicas.gob.es: pick Pontevedra, then the NIE procedure (“certificados y asignación de NIE”), then a slot. It costs nothing, and the confirmation prints the office, in Vigo or elsewhere in the province.

Extranjería Vigo: permits on one street, papers with the police?

The Oficina de Extranjería is at Rúa Teófilo Llorente 4, bajo (902 022 222, weekdays 9:00–14:00), and decides authorisations: work and residence, reunification, arraigo, the card for a European’s non-EU relatives. Numbers, green certificates and TIE cards are police work; policia.es currently lists the Brigada at C/ Joaquín Costa 17, Pontevedra, and other units of the province.

Where are huellas TIE Vigo appointments held?

At the office on your confirmation. The current policia.es list shows TIE issue at five units of the province of Pontevedra, none in Vigo itself; until early 2024 it included C/ Álvaro Cunqueiro 6, which the Universidade de Vigo still names. Take the EX-17, passport and visa, a photo, the 790-012 receipt and a padrón volante.

Certificado de registro UE Vigo: who has to apply?

Any European (EU, EEA or Swiss) living in Spain for longer than three months files it, on the EX-18, at a police unit of the province. Europeans working here while living in Portugal need only a NIE.

Where is the empadronamiento done in Vigo?

At the Concello’s Oficina de Estatística, on the ground floor of the Casa do Concello, Praza do Rei 1. Walk in and take a ticket (the Concello’s page says from 8:30; the office hours it gives are 9:00–13:30), or book through 010.

Are you part of the administration?

No. NIE Vigo is privately run and independent. The Concello, the Oficina de Extranjería and the police make every decision; our job is to get you ready, and you are free to go to them without us.

Further out on the ría

Two independent firms, for a bigger move or a NIE from afar

Our part of a move to Vigo is the forms and the appointments. Some people want more of it done for them; others want to travel less. Two private firms, with no tie to any administration, can take part of the load: AnchorLess for a relocation from beginning to end, Gestoraz for a NIE requested without coming to Spain.

Which raft are you tied to?

A few lines are enough: your nationality, where around the ría you live or will live, and what has to be ready by when. We answer by email with the route that fits.
